Kukaoo Heiau-8173-2

Kukaoo Heiau-8173-2

Kukaoo Heiau is a agricultural heiau as opposed to sacrificial heiaus which are more well known. Prayers were made here for food crops such as taro, which sustained the people. The style here is 'STACK STONE MASONRY,' or no mortar used. They created two outside flat rock walls and filled it in with smaller rocks to support the structure. Even in an earthquake, it remained strong due to this design. Here at Kukaoo Heiau, there is an offering platform visible just inside the entrance on the right.
